Lanse Scriven

Lansing “Lanse” Scriven is the principal of Lanse Scriven Law. Lanse concentrates his practice in the areas of business disputes and bar disciplinary/professional ethics defense. Complementary to his litigation practice, Lanse has served as a Special Prosecutor for the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission since 1994. During the span of his career, Lanse has represented a wide spectrum of clients, ranging from small business owners and Fortune 500 corporations to lawyers in solo practices and large firms. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized in Best Lawyers of America, Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, and Thomson Reuter’s Florida Super Lawyers.

From 2009 – 2017, Lanse served on the Florida Bar Board of Governors as a representative for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit (Hillsborough County). While on the Board of Governors, Lanse served as Chair of the Budget Committee and Vice-Chair of the Board Review Committee on Professional Ethics. In 2015, Lanse was elected by fellow governors to the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors.

Lanse also has a distinguished record of service in his local bar community. He is a past President of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association (“NBA”), and the George Edgecomb Bar Association, the Tampa-based chapter of the NBA. Most recently, he was awarded the 2018 Outstanding Lawyer Award by the Hillsborough County Bar Association.

In addition to his work as a bar leader, Lanse has devoted substantial time to several community and civic organizations, including service on the board of directors of Tampa General Hospital, Tampa Housing Authority, Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, and the Innocence Project of Florida. He has also served as Legal Counsel to the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Lanse graduated from Duke University in 1984 and earned his law degree, with honors, from Florida State University College of Law in 1987. While enrolled at Florida State, Lanse served as an editor of the Florida State University Law Review and a member of the law school’s Moot Court team. Following graduation from law school, Lanse clerked for the Honorable Joseph W. Hatchett, former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
